PTO Celebrates Earth Day!

3/21/2024 7:02 am

Happy Earth Day!

Let's beautify our campus through nature.  Please join us for several events to celebrate Earth Day.

Clean up and Prep:   March 25 and April 6 at 9 am

We will be removing plants and weeding as well as preparing the grounds for the event on April 19.

PLANTING DAY:  Friday April 19 at 6:45 am- 7:15 am as well as throughout the day (please sign up for a slot during the day).

Families will be planting in the courtyard.  Please make sure you are VIPS approved if you plan to come during the day.

More planting:  April 20 and 21 at 9 am

We will be planting any remaining plants if needed.

If you do not have a green thumb but you would like to contribute, we are asking for donations to purchase plants for this event.  All donations will be used to purchase plants for the event.  Any amount is appreciated!

*Families are encouraged to bring their own gloves, shovels or trowels or any other gardening tools you have available.  We will have a few, but not enough for everyone.

Please click below for more detailed information or reach out to Crystal with any questions at bushnaturecenter@gmail.com.

Solar Eclipse- April 8

3/21/2024 6:56 am

SOLAR ECLIPSE

Monday, April 8

Texas will experience a solar eclipse on April 8th!  Here in Houston, the event will occur over the course of about two and a half hours from 12:20 pm to 3:00 pm while our students are at school.  At the peak of the eclipse (1:40pm), the sun will be 94% hidden by the moon at our location.  We want our students to safely experience this spectacular and rare event.  Permission slips and a safety guide will be sent home next week in red folders for students in grades 1- 5. Pre-K and Kindergarten classes will not participate in the eclipse viewing due to safety concerns but will still benefit from a classroom lesson. Students must have a signed permission slip to participate in the eclipse viewing.  Eclipse glasses or viewers will be provided for participating students.  VIPS-approved volunteers will be needed to help ensure that students keep their glasses on and stay safe during the event. Please be on the lookout for the volunteer sign-up if you would like to help and experience the eclipse on campus with the students.

Volunteer to assist with Eclipse

We are also asking families to send in a small colander or spoon with holes on April 8.  These items allow students to view the eclipse in an indirect and unique way. Students will bring the items home after the eclipse.  Please label with your name to make sure you get your item back!
